About Us

Branch # 11, Coombs, Central Vancouver Island

WE are looking for new players! see below!

Our branch was formed in 1982. We have approximately 45 members with about 20 active musicians. The music our group plays is both for dancing and listening. We play a lot of music by traditional fiddlers such as Don Messer, Andy DeJarlis and John Arcand. We also celebrate original fiddle tunes of members past and present to help make our branch distinct to our area.

Tunes include waltzes, jigs, reels, polkas, pattern dances, foxtrots, two steps and schottisches. The fiddles play lead and are backed by guitars, ukuleles and piano. New members of all playing levels are welcome!

Our objectives are :

-To encourage and promote Old Time Fiddling in B.C.

-To assist other branches holding competitions and Jamborees.

-To encourage and promote the art of traditional Canadian fiddling in young people under the age of 19 years.

What we do:
Performances: We perform at many community events such as Errington and Qualicum Beach farmers markets, the Fall Fair, Apple Cider Press Fair, Goats on the Roof plaza and the Coombs Bluegrass Festival. From September to the end of June we are very busy bringing music to 9 Senior Residences in the Parksville and Qualicum Beach area.

Meetings: Branch 11 meets 1st Wed of every month at Coombs Rodeo grounds Hall at 2pm. Rehearsals: We have found a new place to have our weekly practices! From now on we will practice at the Grace United Church in Coombs. This is the little white church beside Goats on the Roof. The practices will be from 2pm to 4 pm every Tuesday starting on October 19th
